We had a wonderful community BBQ held in the Kitty Coleman part, which has pedestrian access at the end of our residential street. 60 residents enjoyed the BBQ which was fully funded by FireSmart Canada. These annual events are a time to share the ongoing plans for emergency preparedness. 3 local emergency staff attended our event, 2 from Emergency Services CVRD plus the fire Chief from Oyster River/Merville.
During our event, we shared the good news that we had finally, after several years, saved sufficient funds to purchase our radios which will be the most important tool we may need during an emergency, especially an earthquake. We now had enough funds for 2 radios, thanks to Neighbourhood Small Grants. The case for the need for radios was so well supported that the group decided to offer donations that very day and we raised enough for a third radio! Our communications lead has now selected and purchased 3 Icom Inc VHF Transceivers.
Much thanks to the Comox Valley Community Foundation for all your support in our efforts to prepare our community to safely and quickly respond to an emergency event.
