Hi, my name is Heather, my project idea was to bring community members together to have a Community BBQ.
For our event I made bannock dogs, bannock burgers, and gave out free drinks and snacks! With help from an elder, before we distributed the BBQ we blessed the food and smudged our space (KANDU). We had a lot of good feedback from the community, and it was a great opportunity to share about what we do at kandu and how we help a vulnerable population. We handed out food in West Kelowna and downtown Kelowna.
We had our community BBQ on August 31st – the international overdose awareness day. During this event people learned about stigma, discrimination, and helpful resources regarding overdosing and addiction struggles. We were also able to spend time remembering loved ones that have passed as a result of the toxic drug epidemic.
I want to thank NSG for the continued support.
