It was a beautiful afternoon as neighbours from Manoah Village gathered and worked together to paint, repair and give our public spaces some much needed TLC. As a large townhouse, many neighbours met for the first time, meeting initially in our rec centre, we split the 40+ people in attendance into groups considering ability and what projects they were most interested in working on. Our youngest participant was 4 years old! Everyone had a job, kids delivered drinks, helped with painting and searched for wasp nests (from a distance). Everybody worked together for several hours, painting, repairing fences, receiving potluck food items, and helping out where they could. As the day ended, we gathered back at our townhouse Rec Centre for a potluck bbq, all sitting together, sharing a meal and getting to know each other. New connections between neighbours were made, and food was brought even by neighbours who couldn’t participate in the day’s activities but wanted to show their gratitude. Thank you Vancouver Foundation and Neighbourhood Small Grant for making this day a possibility!
