Our Community Guitar Day was a success! We had eight guitarists from Nelson, Rossland, and Salmo come together at Nelson United Church to work with classical guitarist Emma Rush. The participants had varying ages, playing abilities, and types of guitars they used to prepare two ensemble pieces by Annette Kruisbrink for our afternoon concert. The concert featured the two pieces that we worked on that day and some solo and ensemble performances that participants had prepared in advance. Most of the participants don’t get a chance to perform regularly and this was a great chance to get concert experience. The concert was open to the public and we had a good turnout of friends, family, and more to support the performers and hear a great selection of guitar music.
All the ensemble participants learned a lot about working with other musicians and working with a conductor. It was a great feeling to bring people together through music and to be able to share it with the community. Based on the success of this event, we are hoping to hold another Community Guitar Day with more participants!
