We were lucky enough to be given some money to host our first Complex Community BBQ Party.
Between myself and other members on council we managed to pick up a ton of hot dogs/ buns, chips, cookies, brownies, and some propane for the BBQ and held our party in the middle of August. We had a member of council who also donated a bunch of crafts for a craft table.
What a successful event this was! Around 100-120 people showed up and all parents were so happy to meet other parents in the complex. The networking between families who had children in same grades were wonderful! Many parents came up to me and thanked me for such a fun event as this was the first event that has been put on in this complex over the last 12 years.
We definitely look forward to trying to make this a yearly event. Thank you again for making this happen for our complex to become more of a community.
As a council, we go by this motto: ‘It takes a community to raise a child; families are made up of diverse cultures, ethnicities, heritage, traditions and lifestyles. When this diversity is respected, valued and celebrated, that is when we succeed in building a community.’
