The first “Cookies n Cocoa” was a great success! I thought that it would be nice to get families together to socialize during the holidays. The past few years have been isolating so it was nice to bring people together again. The event was hosted at the Family Enrichment Centre at Hastings Community Centre. Caregivers and their children signed up via a Google form prior to the event and came on December 13 to decorate gingerbread people, drink hot chocolate, socialize, and play. 25 families signed up and 20 participated. The cookies were bought at Fratelli Bakery on Commercial Drive, as to support local. Families received 2 gingerbread people and all the candy and icing to decorate, as well as hot chocolate and marshmallows. The parents also received a small “R & R care package” that included an eye mask, lip mask, tea, and chocolates. Since it’s such a busy time of year for parents I thought it would be nice to give them a little treat as well. The families spent time chatting while the children played in the centre. It was a great success and community building event. Special thanks to Mary and Janice at Hastings Community Centre for allowing me to use their space! Happy holidays!
