On a sunny Saturday in September I invited our amazing neighborhood to take part in a block party. We used the grant funds to buy food, décor and prizes. We had a bouncy castle, yard games, Bingo, music, a ‘kids zone’, ping pong and drinks on a blocked off area on one of our quitter streets. We also used name tags to ensure new connections were made.
The event was an absolute success. I guess that approx. 150 people took part. Many neighbors helped set up, tear down and helped during the event.
To market the event I used our neighborhood FaceBook site ‘Craigdarroch Community’ and also posted posters on the mailboxes.
In the future I would encourage people to get more involved with the planning and would ask for more help with clean up.
A huge thank you for this grant – it was such a great way to encourage neighborhood community connections.
