My project is a separate library from my families little free library. I wanted mine to focus on diversity and to be a part of “Read In Color”. I make sure that my library is filled with books from the LGBTQ+ community. I make sure to include authors and books from Indigenous peoples, people of color, black lives matter, disabilities, and any other minority group. We dedicate a week out of every month to focus on one group or issue. On the week of Sept 30th, National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, the library was stocked with books by/about first nations people and the history of Canada’s relationship with them. We make sure to include books for all ages and reading levels. My mom helps me pick out the adult books.
We are going to have fun weeks where we have Spooky books for October and themes like that.
I had so much fun building my library and learned a lot about measuring, leveling and used lots of math. My project benefits myself, my family and the entire community. This is the best way that I can help use my voice and get books to people so they can learn about people and issues outside of themselves.
