🌸 What happens when you combine fresh blooms, delicious home-cooked food, and open hearts? Pure community magic!
Through our Neighbourhood Small Grants projects, we recently hosted two heartwarming Eco-Floral Art socials brought together by flowers, food, kindness, and connection. Here is a look back at the special moments and memories we created together!
Despite a rainy forecast, the Cambie Community Centre generously opened its newly installed covered picnic tables, providing the perfect shelter with easy access to water and facilities. Guests enjoyed fresh blooms (sponsored in part by Canadian Tire at Ironwood) alongside a rich multicultural buffet featuring dishes like Singaporean Fried Vermicelli, Thai Tom Yum Chicken, Korean Chap Chae, Chinese Fried Noodles, Japanese Cabbage Salad, Mediterranean Salad, Russian Traditional Salad, Ham Wraps, and Veggie/Shrimp Skewers. And instantly, neighbours broke through language barriers with warm welcomes, and bonded over a shared love of flowers and food!
Building on that momentum, our second gathering brought even more warmth, creativity, and generosity to the table. Thanks to a gift card sponsorship from London Drugs, we provided a wide array of event snacks. On top of that, participants touched our hearts by spontaneously bringing their own homemade dishes, baked goods, desserts, juices, and cookies to share. This time, we turn fresh flowers into dried florals. Everyone had the chance to craft their own beautiful floral rings to wear and take home, a lovely reminder of a day filled with laughter and hands-on art.
Working with flowers reminds us that beauty evolves. From farm blooms to fresh arrangements and dried keepsakes, every stage has purpose. It serves as a gentle reminder to look beyond surface appearances, take time to understand one another’s stories, and help each other bloom into our best selves.
These events were a beautiful reminder that when everyone contributes a little, we can build something deeply meaningful together.
