This year well over a hundred residents, friends, and guests of the four buildings on our block (600-block of West 7th Avenue between Heather and Ash Streets) came together for our annual Block Party. We even had people from the neighbouring buildings down on 6th Avenue came up join the fun!
This one-day Block Party brought together neighbours & friends to get to know one another better, create neighbourly connection, while fostering and encouraged new ones. It also encouraged community safety and security as the Neighbourhood Block Watch sent a VPD Constable to the Party. Children had an opportunity to explore a VPD cruiser and ask a VPD Officer questions – thank you Constable Paul!
The Block Party was open to everyone in the Fairview Slopes neighbourhood – including their pets! Attendees were treated to a community BBQ, followed by various games like a water balloon toss, calk walk, and raffle draw for various prizes generously donated by our local community businesses, such as Busy Bee Drycleaner, Bosley’s Pet Food, Citadella Café, Save On Food, Menchies, and Assembli. We even held contest for our neighbourhood dogs, including longest sit, musical sit (like musical chairs but dogs had to sit and stay on command when the music stopped, and best trick.
The day was a wonderful opportunity to neighbours to network and schmooze. It truly is an amazing day, which so many of our residents look forward to each year. Thank you Neighbourhood Small Grants as our Block Party was made possible through your generous grant.
