With the increasing density and cost of living in inner-city Vancouver, is there still a place for community gardens or even urban farms? In this free walking tour, starting at Thornton Park and ending at Charleson Park, we stopped by a few different community gardens, urban farms, & an urban orchard to discuss the various models of community/communal gardens and their place in the livelihood of the communities living in this area. We talked about the importance of local food assets, the differences between the various gardening/farming models and the opportunities for members of the community to take part in local food growing. The tour ended at the Invivo studio, where micro farming methods were demonstrated , and tea and local fruit was shared. The participants were able to take home a sample of vegetable seeds for growing at home or at a shared space.
