Our project began with a simple but meaningful goal: to create a safe, engaging, and inclusive space where families could connect through yoga and mindfulness. We called it the Family Yoga NSG Program, and from the beginning, we knew thoughtful planning would be key to its success.
We started by identifying the needs of our community. Many parents expressed that they wanted activities they could enjoy with their children while also supporting emotional well-being. Based on this, we designed sessions that combined simple yoga poses, breathing exercises, and fun group activities suitable for both kids and adults. We created a flexible schedule, gathered basic materials like mats and music, and ensured the environment was welcoming and non-judgmental.
One of the biggest challenges we faced was keeping children engaged while also making the sessions meaningful for adults. Children often have shorter attention spans, and some were hesitant to participate at first. To solve this, we incorporated storytelling, games, and music into the yoga sessions. For example, we turned yoga poses games like cow cat yoga poses. This made the sessions enjoyable and interactive for everyone.
The success of the program was made possible by teamwork. Volunteers, parents, and even the children themselves played an important role. Volunteers helped organize sessions, manage groups, and create a positive environment. Special thanks to Miss Marie( Settlement worker), who helped me make posters and arrange the parents and children for the yoga session. Parents supported their children and actively participated, which strengthened family bonds. The children brought energy, creativity, and joy, making each session unique.
We also provide nutritious food, tea, coffee, veg pizza, cheese pizza, fruits, cupcakes, and so much more.
Through this project, we learned several valuable lessons. First, flexibility is essential—being open to change helps overcome unexpected challenges. Second, engagement grows when activities are fun and relatable. Lastly, community support is powerful; when people feel included and valued, they are more willing to participate and contribute.
