With less funding this year, I really limited the sign up which ended up backfiring. Last year I had an extremely long waitlist but since I put such restrictions this year I had less people interested than I had originally expected.
We were having a session for first time parents so I opened it up to anyone using Facebook and filled the spots. I was then surprised the day of when many people didn’t show up. There ended up being a few of us which was ok but I was a little disappointed as some never responded when I reached out. As the day went on those who did attend were so engaged and so interested that I remembered how much this could mean even for a small group. I had one message me the next day saying they went out and picked up their free Naloxone kit and thank me for all they learned.
I also changed venues this year so I think next year I will post in a few new groups and move the date if I need to allow for more to sign up. I am so grateful for the grant, and the participants also wanted me to thank you for them as they learned a lot. I think first aid should be taught for free to anyone interested as it provides the skill and confidence to be able to save someone’s life and is so important in our community.
