All About Food Security!
The first-ever Food Security Fair took place on May 3 at the Gabriola Agricultural Co-op Hall and grounds. The Fair was used to introduce the residents of Gabriola to producers, suppliers, and information that helps support our island’s food security. Vendors were invited to showcase products, services, engage in conversations, and network with other food security-minded people. Over the four hours, we saw approximately 100 individuals wander through and explore the information tables set up. Even the weather cooperated. Having children attend was very rewarding, and they were excited to take a bean home to grow for themselves.
The feedback from the attendees as well as the vendors have led us thinking about planning this event on an annual basis. We will size the event up to a full day, include more vendors as well as speakers, workshops, and round table display.
