I thought that a good project to assemble would be a starter seed bank aimed at new and young gardeners. I purchased a variety of seeds: plants, pollinators, wild flowers, vegetables, legumes, and fruits. Then I portioned them out so that each seed bank received some of everything, providing an assortment of seeds to each recipient. Every seed pack starter kit included: tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, sunflowers, pumpkin, watermelon, squash, wildflowers and carrots.
I hosted the giveaway at our local community hall with the help of my family. Any seeds left over from the giveaway were given to the local homeschool kids and other members in the community who were unable to make it to the giveaway.
I felt that providing seeds of fruits and vegetables was a good way to give back to the community and start young gardener’s appreciation for food security and sustainability.
