As an addition to our initial project, we were able to use our remaining funds to sponsor a second Multicultural Potluck for the Glenbrook community. This potluck was held on Oct 24th at lunchtime and 4 classes (approximately 100 grade 6+7 students) were in attendance. The students had just completed a project on the United Nations and the staff wanted to have a potluck lunch to celebrate the United Nations Day (Oct 24) and cultural diversity. The funding provided by the Vancouver Foundation’s Neighbourhood Small Grant program allowed us to purchase extra food, decorations and plates/utensils/etc to make this event a success. The children were able to try food from many different countries and share their learning about the United Nations and other diverse cultures. Some students chose to represent countries or cultures from their family heritage, and others chose to represent countries that they had been studying during the United Nations unit. Dozens of different countries were represented in all. The event spread over several classrooms and the multipurpose room. The food was wonderful and the event was enjoyed by all.
