We had a lovely afternoon of hearing literary works while enjoying the art that was created in collaboration between the artists and the writers, while enjoying delicious afternoon tea pastries and tea. We had lovely fall themed flowers on the tables that had white tablecloths, china teacups, traditional mini scones with butter, double cream and an assortment of jams, macaroons, strawberries, mini croissant sandwiches, assorted squares, mini chocolate cupcakes, and lemon tarts.
The event was held at the Gibsons & District Library and we had to bring more chairs in. We had comments that the event was “special”, that the decor was “beautiful” and the baked goods from a local bakery were “delicious”.
We had eight local writers from novices to seasoned published authors, and journalists read from their works.
The audience of twenty-five, which was all that would fit into the room, was very appreciative. If we had more room more people would’ve attended.
A challenge was that the original venue had many more demands that I felt I could meet. They wanted me to have 45-50 attendees, set up tables in their garden but wouldn’t allow me to ask for volunteers for this large task from their own organization. They also wouldn’t give me access to their kitchen. I’m so glad I cancelled that event as it would’ve been overwhelming and way over budget.
It’s always difficult doing events in other venues. Perhaps, next time I would do it in my own backyard. I would just need to relandscape–ha ha.
