The volunteers of the Hastings Avenue Community Garden at the Village by the Station Residential Care Home, 270 Hastings Avenue held their 2nd annual garden party Sunday, August 20, 2017. A good time was had by the residents and staff of Village by the Station care facility as well as many neighbours living around the garden and throughout Penticton.
We were also pleased to welcome our MP, Richard Cannings and the Community Foundation representative Robin Robertson to the party. Guests enjoyed a relaxing afternoon sipping iced tea donated by David’s Tea, pico de gallo, veggies and dip, watermelon and hot dogs. Even the neighbourhood deer came by to check out the party. Safeway made a donation of $25 towards the party.
The kids were entertained by potato sack races, find the potatoes (which they later took home) and learned to make a “bee bath”. Guests were able to participate in a variety of demonstrations, sketching in the garden, how to make salsa, coffee can art/garden pot and garden tours.
We would like to thank Community Foundation South Okanagan Similkameen, Neighbourhood Small Grants and the City of Penticton for their support.
