The Timberline Interact club decided to take on a large but very meaningful project this fall. Our team of youth partnered with an amazing organization, Everyone Deserves a Smile (EDAS). EDAS is a non-profit organization with a mission to strengthen and awaken unity within communities through leadership valuing equity, inclusion, and diversity at its core.
Our goal was to create and deliver 110 holiday care packages to local community shelters, transition houses, and warming centers. Our process included making displays, announcing the cause to classes and the community, then collecting, sorting, and packaging donations into a cozy gift bag full of warm goodies, and even warmer wishes for vulnerable members of our community.
Each of the 110 hand-painted bags we made contained a holiday card, toque, wool socks, toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, and homemade cookies. Over the course of this project, we learned that providing a small gift of essentials to keep our unhoused members of our community warm and dry through the cold, wet months here on Vancouver Island can make a big difference.
This was a great opportunity for our Interact club and our school to work together through hands-on service to benefit our community. Thank you for your generosity in gifting our group the Neighbourhood Small Grant. With your help, we were able to succeed in bringing some warmth and holiday spirit to the less fortunate members of our community; we could not have done it without your support!
