The “How To Sublimate” 2022 NSG event took place on November 30th, 2022. In total, there were 14 people who attended the workshop. As a group, we started off with bannock pizza, Nanaimo bars, coffee, and fresh fruit. Once we finished our meal together, I gave a breakdown of what Neighbourhood Small Grants is and how to apply for one. Afterward, we did a quick icebreaker activity to allow everyone to get to know one another. Then, as the Project Lead/facilitator, I walked each participant through graphic design/intro to Canva, incorporating their family’s or loved ones’ designs. As a group, we decided upon a design that everyone liked. After the design phase was done, everyone got to experience using a sublimation printer and a heat press to help create their own Christmas ornament which they got to take home with them. During this workshop, I had a group of 2 youths come to video the entire workshop, and will be putting together a videography promotion video for NSG in the new year. At the very end of the workshop, I broke down the start-up costs for creating your own sublimation business. 4/14 individuals were interested in buying their own sublimation machines.
Overall, it was an awesome initiative that allowed a group of diverse people to get to know one another, all the while learning a skill that they can carry with them for the rest of their lives. Thank you Neighbourhood Small Grants for allowing me to bring some creativity and joy into my community/neighbourhood.
