With so many new faces on our block this was such an awesome way to get everyone together for a BBQ in the cul-de-sac. Between myself and another neighbour we were able to plan and coordinate the whole thing…. We were able to let everyone know about it using flyers that we dropped off door to door a couple weeks before the event, by going door to door we were able to preliminarily meet a lot of our neighbours which helped them have a familiar face at the event and we were able to provide more details than a simple flyer could, which I think helped with attendance. We used Facebook events to track expected attendance so we knew how much food and supplies we needed to get, as well as coordinate with our neighbours to bring things like coolers, speakers, and kitchen tents etc. The struggle we faced having it on Facebook was that not everyone uses it so it made it a bit difficult to track the expected attendance. Overall we had a great turnout and it was decided to have this be an annual thing!
Subsequent to the event we’ve been able to communicate with each other as a small community, letting each other know about neighborly things like bears and coyotes in the our backyards, as well as some of our kids now get together at the park up the street:)
We can’t wait until next year!
