On Sunday Dec. 21 we launched New Westminster’s newest Little Free Library at Sapperton Plaza. This large school themed library design was based on a circa 1892 photo of Sapperton School which was located in lower Sapperton. Little Free Library is a world wide movement and its mission is to promote literacy and the love of reading by building free book exchanges, and foster a sense of community.
Along with friends and neighbours, Mayor Jonathan Cote dropped by for the Grand Opening ribbon cutting. Thank you to everyone who made Little Free Library possible, Vancouver Foundation Neighbourhood Small Grants for generously funding this community project, City of New Westminster for allowing us to place this project at Sapperton Plaza, and to The Home Depot – North Surrey who helped out with donated materials and supplies. Special thanks to SAW – Sapperton Association of Woodworkers, community volunteers and especially Jim Brown builder and installer of the Little Free Library.
Little Free Library books are always a gift – never for sale!
