- This years addition to our Liven up the Laneway project brought many smiles to the faces of our senior neighbours. It presented the opportunity for neighbours to chat over their fences that run along the laneway, as we worked away at bringing some beauty and a feeling of safety to our block. The feedback we received included sentiments such as “it’s nice to know there are people in the neighborhood who are looking out of us” as well as “thank you for making our view much nicer”. During this years portion of our on-going project we learned about what kind of specific items to include and what to avoid. For example, Hope has seen a significant increase in bear activity in town. We even saw bear scat in our laneway. With this in mind, we steered away from planting anything that would attract wild animals and instead focused on using rocks, mulch, drift wood, outdoor decor and solar lights to revamp the area. We are grateful to have had the privilege to reconnect with our aging neighours, meet people new to the neighbourhood, and increase the aesthetics and feeling safety in our neighborhood.
