Our block party was an opportunity for intergenerational connections to be made. In our neighbourhood, we deeply value and respect childrens’ rights to outdoor play and defend this area as a free-range outdoor play space. By connecting neighbours, particularly those without children, we provide opportunities for conversations that lead to resolution, before they escalate into conflict. Our block party serves as a celebration of the past year and brings together all the neighbourhood stratas. Children (and adults!) enjoyed the bouncy castles, road hockey and field sports set up for intergenerational play. This year, we also set up a community earthquake planning and preparation table. It was another fantastic event enjoyed by dozens of families, and we are grateful to our strata management company that supplied all the food and drinks for this event!
