We held a neighbourhood picnic, hoping to bring people into our shared space and get to know neighbours.
We had a fantastic event with both community policing and firefighters in attendance.
We had a sharing table for food and old-fashioned picnic games: egg and spoon and coffee sack race. Kids activities included facepainting by youth, tattoos and paper airplane building. Youth had a hockey and soccer shoot out. We capped it off with a live musical performance by a couple Richmond youth playing their cello and violin.
Our goals were accomplished: meeting new neighbours, having a time to socialize and the youth enjoyed the activities for them as well. We had prize draws at the end with donations from local businesses. We also accomplished our goal of having a low-impact event, with neighbours walking or biking, and generating very little waste with participants taking waste & recycling home.
