Our Mitchell Community Garden party exceeded our expectations in many ways. The number of people who showed up, the yummy food, the crafts, the bubble making fun, face painting, music, healthy food storage workshop, everything just worked out in perfect harmony and a fun time was had by all.
We had more than 100 individuals in attendance which included special guests from the school district, people from Cambie community centre, teachers, staff and students from Mitchell Elementary, Mitchell alumni from Cambie High school, an Indian tribe who performed a welcoming ceremony and lots of other people from around the community.
We borrowed the school’s staff room for preparing the salads, cutting up the fresh fruits and vegetables, making solar tea, lemonade etc. We had a face painting station, potting station, arts and crafts station that made recycled crafts such as a bird feeder from egg cartons and insects from used plastic spoons. Garden tours and live music by Mitchell and Cambie High students, workshop on healthy food storage, giant bubble making fun, a gratitude board and sidewalk chalk fun.
We are very grateful to the NSG for making a small idea turn into a very enjoyable community event.
