Covid was a difficult time for our neighbourhood and we wanted to find a way to socialize while still maintaining distance. There was a makeshift fire pit that we used pre-pandemic but we applied for the neighbourhood grant to improve our gathering place and to make it more cozy and neighbourhood friendly. We were able to rebuild the fire pit using secondhand paving stones as well as a steel fire pit ring we ordered online. We also bought a propane fire bowl locally for the months when there is a fire ban happening or to use in the winter when our fire pit is buried in snow. The cinder blocks from the original fire pit came in handy to build a couple of benches with some purchased 2X6’s for more seating. We added a string of solar lights in the trees that light up not just on bar-b-que nights but every night that creates a warm and welcoming glow. We look forward to our neighbourhood bar-b-ques/get-togethers and are grateful to the Vancouver Foundation Community Grants that enabled this to happen.
