My family and I planned a mid-December Christmas party for our block. We created invitations that we got printed locally and hand-delivered them to our neighbours. We rented a tent in case of inclement weather, and we were glad we did, as it poured the night of our event! We didn’t want people to have to stress about bringing food to another holiday event, so we provided everything ourselves. Some homemade items, and some store-bought, ready-made to keep prep manageable. We offered three different hot drinks and had a propane fire ring going to keep bodies warm during the cold evening. For decor, we hung Christmas lights all around the tent and had a Christmas tree decorated in one of the corners. We also made some swags to hang on the posts. A friend volunteered to help with setup on the day and also provided her photography skills to take Christmas pictures for folks. We had an amazing turnout! Almost everyone (who wasn’t sick) came out for some time during the 3-hour event, and many lovely conversations were had. We got a lot of positive feedback and are so glad we put in the effort! Bringing the neighborhood together strengthens the community as a whole.
