On Saturday, July 18, 2015, residents from Kozier, Yarmish, Stefanko and Gaunt in Richmond gathered at Kozier Park for our first-ever Neighbourhood International Potluck Dinner.
105 people from 43 households attended. Those who arrived were greeted at our welcome table, put on a name tag, identified their home on a neighbourhood map and indicated which country they were originally from.
We had two special guests: Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie and Ed Gavsie, Executive Director of Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives!
We were entertained by a 26-piece summer community concert band called Brass, Wind and Wire. They had musicians ranging from 8 years old to 80 years old! They opened our event with O’ Canada and played songs from Russia, USA, West Indies, France, South America and East Asian.
Also, we were treated to a selection of Azerbaijani folk dance music from Chichaklar Dance Group. For their final dance, they adapted their traditional dance to Clean Bandit’s song Rather Be!
From all accounts, this event was a super success!
Special shout out goes to Vancouver Foundation and Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives for making this event possible. And to committee members, Evelina, Ken, Debbie, Sue, Larry, Marilyn, Bob and Michael for making the vision come to life.
