Our neighbourhood project was to learn how to knit. The teacher demonstrated the basic techniques, helped us choose appropriate projects, and guided us along at each get-together as we encountered problems or new techniques. We had a few more people who wanted to participate than we originally thought. Fortunately, a few people who joined in on the fun already knew how to knit and were able to assist and share their supplies.
We were fortunate to use the Neighbourhood Small Grant to purchase knitting needles and yarn, so that cost was not a barrier to anyone interested. It was so great to knit and chat and eat and laugh and create with a new group of people in the neighbourhood. Between us, a number of projects have been completed, from simple dishcloths to sweaters.
We will likely continue meeting as a group in anticipation of the cold weather and the holiday season.
