We delivered our invitations for our neighbourhood get together into house mailboxes two weeks before the event. We generated a cute invite with the time, date, event and an NSG logo to acknowledge their support. We borrowed and rented double the amount of event tents on the good chance we would have some rain. We lost some attendance due to rain but pushed ahead with our plans anyway. We had amazing attendance, all considered, at around 40 people. Rain stopped after the meal long enough to bring out our giant bubbles. Having eyed the Steveston bubble project with deep envy for years, we made our own. For the kids and many adults it was the hit of the get together. I highly recommend this activity. It was …joyful. I can attest to this as I got to use up the remaining litre of bubble solution the next day. We also ran a selfie scavenger hunt for groups of kids to search the neighbourhood and take a selfie which included the objects on the list. Those with the highest score got to pick from the treat bag first, while everyone who participated got a treat. It’s an easy self guided activity which kept kids and adults busy for a while. Sadly, we had to hold off on our rock painting craft table as we needed room under the tents for people, but the scavenger hunt took its place instead. We also had bike ramps set up in the street which the kids made good use of. We attracted the attendance of some new neighbours, and invited people to sign up for our Christmas charity project if they were interested. We acquired 5 new families to get involved with that. Additional sprinkles occurred but a fair few diehards stayed around the fires until just before midnight. Everyone who attended expressed their thanks for the NSG assistance and to the organizers. From that evening , there is now another get together in the works…..While it’s really nice to get to together, the event highlights the fact that neighbours need these opportunities to come together. An immense thanks to the NSG program and people who make these projects much more than they might otherwise be❤️
