This was the second part of our project focusing on (1)building new relationships among neighbourhood residents, (2) providing opportunities for participants to learn from each other and (3) connect people across boundaries of age.
Approximately 100 people showed up at the Kaleden Community Hall on October 1, 2017 to participate in a Fall Apricot Heritage Social. Museum artifacts were on display and table members participated in completing a heritage quiz, before they were served home made scones with apricot preserves with whipped cream or greek yoghurt by local Girl Guides. A movie of the early settlers of Kaleden was premiered. Guests had a great time interacting with each other, viewing the displays, completing the heritage quiz, meeting the oldest living member of Kaleden who was born here, learning about local history including meeting the 97 year old couple who owned a bakery and engaging with current and previous neighbours. It was great to see the diversity of ages talking and sharing about the history of the community. The project was partly funded by a Neighbourhood Small Grant from the Community Foundation of the South Okanagan Similkameen.
There were two groups of neighbours who applied for the NSG, and with many volunteers (neighbours) who helped make this happen. Thank you!
