On Saturday August 18th, Neighbours on Gilker Hill closed off their block and welcomed in the neighbourhood.
With over 40 houses in their complex getting to know one another can be hard. Neighbours wanted to establish a connection with those living beside them to help increase the security and family friendliness for children. The neighbours realized the importance of the connection when they found a bear wandering into their cul-de-sac mere hours before the start of their block party and were able to safely pull in the neighbouring kids from harm’s way. This didn’t deter the group from coming back out once the bear had wondered away.
Neighbours got together and had a local artist face paint for the kids and play a variety of games on their block. Thanks to the block party the neighbourhood feels more comfortable knowing who lives where and ready to notify them if something like another bear rolls into town
