Our dirt party Sunday May 28 was a resounding success. Held on the lawn of one of the homes in our cul de sac, it was well attended and catered beautifully to the grownups and children that attended.
Megan Zeni, a master gardener, delivered a presentation on how to plant vegetable seeds for optimal results. Neighbours donned gardening gloves and planted flower baskets together, which we hung in an alleyway that leads to our street. Using seeds donated by the Richmond Seed Project, we planted an assortment of vegetables in pots, using dirt provided by the grant we received. It was great to see adults and children working together to select and plant their seeds, and take their pots home to watch their new plants grow.
We shared cold drinks, ice creams, popsicles and fruit as we socialized. The kids were entertained making massive bubbles and a raucous water balloon fight ensured everyone cooled off in the hot weather. It was a fabulous event that was educational, constructive and social. Many thanks to NSG for supporting our event and bringing our community together!
