October 2, 2016 was a bright, beautiful Fall day to host the New West Society of Apple Pickers & Pressers inaugural New West Apple Press Fest. Throughout the day, 250 people gathered to take a turn helping to wash, chop, smash, press more than 1000 pounds of apples into fresh hot apple cider. Kids, parents, young adults, young-at-hearts and even a Mayor and Member of Parliament got into the action. Father-son organizing team got lots of help from moms, neighbours and fellow juice enthusiasts, including: Buy-Low Foods, Lord Kelvin Community School, DailyEggs, Homesteaders Emporium, Southlands Farm, New West Brewers, and Fresh Roots Society. We received lots of positive feedback, and offers to help out next time – so if you missed a chance to get your squeeze on this year, pencil in the first Sunday of October, 2017!

Neighbourhood Small Grants
