My name is Nur and I am 12 years old. I applied for a neighbourhood small grant from family services of greater Vancouver in New Westminster and Funded by Vancouver Foundation. This year was my second year to apply for ‘The Fun Day for all the kids in New Westminster’.
I planned this event because I know that many kids especially newcomers & new immigrants here in New West can’t afford to go to fun and expensive activities. So, I decided to organize and plan this event for all the kids to have a Fun Day at Moody Park. I contacted and invited the Tumblebus, the New West Police, Tim Horton’s cruiser, the Tiger Exhibit band, the HUB for a bike course, Henna, Hair Braiding, a Stilt Walker, a Balloon maker. Save on Food on East Columbia provided the snacks. Also, this year, The News leader Newspaper donated 2 BC Lions ticket and we had a draw at the event.
My Experience in planning this event:
– Planning an event is important
– The most important part is to have great support from the community in New West
– I learned a lot from last year. What matters for me is when kids are happy and having fun. It encouraged me to think how I can plan and organize next year.
I look forward to organizing the “The Fun Day for All the Kids in New Westminster” this coming year again and I would like to prepare more activities, invite more people, and make it unforgettable and memorable event for everyone.
I would like to organize this event because I like to see a lot of people smile and see all the kids having fun and it makes me so happy. These small grants brought all of New Westminster community together.
I would like to thank Vancouver Foundation and Family Service of Greater Vancouver for giving me and other applicants this opportunity to organize the NSG events.
