This workshop was led by Jennifer Lipka, a local bee expert. She gave a talk about local wild bees, their importance to our food supply, human impact on the health of bees such as greenhouse agriculture, climate change, pesticides etc; identification, habitat, life cycle. Then she led us in making bee houses out of recycled cans and paper. These houses can provide “affordable housing” to help out our bees in Vancouver! We shared some beautiful fruits, which would be scarce or non-existent without the help of our pollinator friends, the bees. Jennifer encouraged us to look online at the Westcoast Seeds website for resources on taking care of our bees/ bee houses.

We believe the best people to effect change in a community are the ones within it. And when we can make money less of an issue in doing so, it allows so many more kinds of ideas to shine.
