It was a bitterly cold, windy and rainy Saturday afternoon when neighbours from the Heritage Hills/Lakeshore Highlands Homeowner’s Association held its park dedication celebration. Despite the terrible conditions, about 40 brave souls turned out to enjoy hot food and beverages under the cover of two tents supplied and erected by RDOS Parks & Recreation staff. In the shelter of the tents, out of the cutting wind, neighbours were able to meet other neighbours and new members and enjoy each other’s company.
Children in attendance were able to participate in activities organized by Janet Black from the RDOS Parks & Recreation; natural canvas backpacks, kid’s size, were available to the children to colour in the design and take home.
The food was quickly consumed and the coffee urn quickly drained as folks tried to stay warm. The Homeowner’s Social Committee arranged all the food supplies and delivery to the site.
Advertising for the event was through the Homeowner’s Google Group website, notices on the bulletin boards in two locations, and a sandwich board with balloons close to the site.
Perhaps it was the cold and wet conditions which generated the warm atmosphere because everyone present seemed to enjoy themselves and lots of smiles were seen!
The dedication event was arranged through the neighbours belonging to the Homeowner’s Association and the staff at the RDOS (Shona Schleppe and Janet Black, and made possible by a Neighbourhood Small Grant, from the Community Foundation of the South Okanagan-Similkameen.
