For our social, we wanted to bring together new and longtime members of the Pemberton horse community for a fun afternoon of games, music, snacks, socializing, making new connections, developing skills, and learning about local resources.
We planned this event by reaching out to a local farm, who kindly offered to host the event, and by promoting it locally on social media and with posters around the community. A fabulous local music group kindly volunteered to play, and various local horse people stepped up to share their skills, such as teaching roping.
The event was organized by a core group of about 10 people, and we had approximately 60 community members participate, ranging from toddlers to longtime riders. Some challenges were thinking of activities that would be interesting and meaningful for different age groups and skill levels, thinking of easy snacks (like bags of chips), and planning for potential inclement weather (we borrowed lots of pop up tents).
We had a great afternoon, and it was great to see the community come together like this!
