I had the pleasure of creating a fun, interactive learning game for children of all ages to learn about the power of our Pollinators and their vital roles in nature. The Surrey Urban Farmers Market and its volunteers supported me with in-kind free table space and volunteers’ time in presenting the game to attendees during their 2025 season.
The game consists of a Magnetic Whiteboard, magnetic laminated images of Pollinators (bees, butterflies, beetles), and magnetic laminated images of the flower types they choose to pollinate. Participants can select a Pollinator picture and place it on the board, and then the Volunteers tell them about the type of flower that Pollinator likes and why, so they can find a matching flower type and place that on the board.
After the participants finish playing the Matching Game, they can take home a Pollinator Power! button or make their own at the Market’s Kid Zone tent.
Supplies utilized were: Magnetic Whiteboard, Whiteboard Markers, Self-Sticking Lamination Pouches, Printed Images of Pollinators and Flowers, Adhesive Magnet Strips, Button/Badge making supplies (the Market kindly loaned a button/badge making machine), Volunteer Game Instructions, and a Pollinator/Flower Chart.
I am grateful for the support of the Surrey Urban Farmers Market in pulling this project together, and they have indicated that I will be able to carry this game forward into their 2026 season, so I am very happy the game will continue to education in a very fun way.
