We got a Neighbourhood Small Grant to support the “Quadra Island beach clean dream team.”
To date we have collected and stashed or removed equivalent to approximately 3- 40 yard trash containers. Teamed up with Spirit of the West adventures and there trash Depot. Had every class from the Quadra Island elementary school kids picking up Beach Garbage. Coordinated with Stephanie at the Comox Valley Regional district waste management, for their bin delivery /removal, and now soon we will have “Ocean Legacy foundation” on our beaches collecting the larger items and GPS stash pointed piles.
Plus now happening, an illegal dumping clean up initiative by other islanders, in conjunction with Comox Valley Regional district waste management.The grant money has allowed me to spread the word with stickers for pickers as a slight reward, purchase eco friendly garbage bags, and Ice cream cones for school kids after. All delivered Covid careful by school staff, or myself.
