We have always wanted to construct a lending library in our area. We are all avid readers and gardeners and wanted to have books and seeds accessible for everyone in our area, even if they don’t drive into town often. We have a lot of walkers in the area and it makes for a nice stop along the way. Due to high applications during our year of construction, we had to be a little inventive with how we were going to stretch the funding. We repurposed a lot of building materials and spent our funds on paint, concrete and some solar lights. We post about our library on social media by using our community Facebook pages, and it doubled nicely as an area for local trick or treaters to pick up their treats (and a book) on Halloween. I have had great feedback from users of the lending library and look forward to expanding the area in the future with a bench and an area for neighbourhood gardeners to trade extra plants and produce.
