The Richmond Art+Culture Expo was an initiative developed to celebrate art and culture in the Richmond community! Our first annual event on November 19th, 2017, took place at Hamilton Community Centre from 12 till 3 PM. Richmond artists showcased their unique skills and had the opportunity to share their talents with their neighbours. The event was a great platform for community members to create, connect, and collaborate.
The event was made possible with the dedication of 7 wonderful volunteers. We recruited artists and advertised for the event using Facebook, flyers, and word of mouth.
The event started off with a land acknowledgement by May Shaw. The 7 artists (painters, calligraphy artists, photographers, a henna artist and a musician) set up their booths by 12 PM, and had the opportunity to share their art and engage with 35 attendees. We also had 2 interactive activity booths, to encourage artistic expression.
Starbucks and Tim Hortons donated coffee, hot chocolate, and donuts for participants and attendees to enjoy, and also some items for the door prize! Opus Art Supplies donated art supplies for our interactive booths, and rented out some easels to us at no cost.
A special shoutout to our amazing volunteers, artists, sponsors and supporters for helping make this event happen!
With continued support from Vancouver Foundation, Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives, and other sponsors, we look forward to hosting the Richmond Art+Culture Expo again in 2018!
