The installation of the new Rocky Point Neighbourhood Bulletin Board was an exciting project, made possible by the generous support of the Nanaimo Foundation. This board provides a central spot for sharing local events, notices, and updates, helping to strengthen community connections.
One of the main challenges we encountered was obtaining permission from the city to dig holes at our chosen site along Williamson Road. This required reaching out to various city officials before finally receiving a response. The process took several months and involved multiple conversations with city personnel, but once we overcame this hurdle, we were able to move forward with the installation.
After securing approvals, construction and installation took place in just under a week. Its location along Williamson Road, adjacent to the Walley Creek Trail, is ideal, as the trail is used by people of all ages in the community, making the board a visible and accessible resource.
This project taught us the importance of persistence when navigating city regulations. We have already received a ton of positive feedback since its installation, confirming that this board will be well-used and appreciated by the community for years to come!
