We had some dance parties! The City of Vancouver shut down the street in front of the Lord Selkirk Elementary School for a limited time after school for a month (May to June). This was to promote more active travel and to make the street safer for students. We took advantage of this time when the students could enjoy a safe and car-free street and invited the students to a small number of dance parties with popsicle treats to beat the heat free to the attendees.
The event was very well attended. The biggest challenge was the number of attendees, as we gave out upwards of 600 popsicles at each party!
I emptied a lot of grocery stores’ popsicle sections to host the various dance parties.
It was very worthwhile, though. The events were well attended, lots of dancing took place, and there was a great sense of community in the time everyone spent together.
