This spring we hosted 3 hands-on open houses showcasing fun new tools that build community online. Using Gather.town as the main meeting place, a total of 46 participants explored this virtual world to better connect with their loved ones virtually. 18 youth, 12 parents, and 16 grandparents learned how to host parties online by participating in an online party!
We invited youth and their grandparents, as well as service providers from local non-profits to join us in a world that we built and shared out for anyone to use in the future. Up to 25 people can meet for free at one time, and anyone can build their own space if they don’t want to borrow ours.
We placed a variety of games and pictures around the space for people to try out. People are free to walk around the space and join different conversations or activities. You can visit the space we built for yourself here: Zoom is great for meetings, but it isn’t a great way to host social gatherings that are fun and full of connecting moments.
