I’ve held a drop in writing group at the Gibsons & District Public Library for the past year. Writers from all levels and genres drop in to work on their writing projects. I also give prompts, such as story starters, photographs, paintings, and found and blackout writing.
To capture our work and focus on a a theme, and fueled by the inspiration of Lindy Pfeil’s West Vancouver Stories, I applied to the Small Neighbourhood Grants to create an anthology of our work. “Snippets from a Small Coastal Town: Understanding Life on the Sunshine Coast, Volume I” was created with works that emerged during the two-hour, monthly drop-ins, as well as from submissions outside of the write in time.
We used the grant to print copies of the anthology for contributors and attendees to our reading. We will also offer nibbles to our guests at the public reading from the anthology by the authors on Wednesday, December 17th, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. hosted by the Gibsons Public Library. We’ll also hold a reading at the Powell River Public Library in the New Year. The book is available for purchase on Amazon.ca as a paper or ebook.
We plan on creating Volume II in 2026. We have quite a few late submissions and interest going forward, as long as the library will continue to host us.
