With the support of a $300 grant from Small Neighbourhood, I conducted an eight-week Python coding course designed for both youth and adult learners in our community. The goal of this initiative was to introduce participants to essential programming skills, encourage creativity through digital tools, and build confidence in using technology for everyday problem-solving.

The course was divided into two segments—one tailored for youth and another for adults. For the youth sessions, we met every Saturday for three hours over four weeks. Each session was designed to be interactive and project-based. We began with the basics of Python programming and gradually progressed to more engaging activities like creating digital art using code, automating simple everyday tasks (such as tip calculators), and designing small games.

Participants learned how coding can be a powerful tool not just for career development but also for expressing creativity and solving real-world problems. By the end of the course, many of them had created their own basic digital art pieces and functioning programs, which they were excited to share with their peers and families.

For the adult sessions, the focus was slightly different—more on practical applications and building confidence in using technology. Adults also learned Python basics, automation tools, and how to use code to simplify routine tasks. Despite some initial hesitation, many adult learners expressed enthusiasm and a strong sense of accomplishment as they began to understand and apply programming concepts.

Throughout the workshops, feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. Both youth and adults appreciated the approachable structure of the course, the hands-on projects, and the supportive learning environment. Many participants expressed interest in continuing to learn and asked about future courses or follow-up sessions.

This initiative not only provided a low-cost, high-impact learning opportunity but also brought people together in a shared experience of growth, discovery, and empowerment through technology. The success of this program highlighted the potential for more such community-based educational initiatives in the future.
