In June 2025, a chess matches was held in North Surrey. The project, titled “Sport for All in Guildford, Surrey,” has been a success. Participants shared: “Taking part in the Guildford Bullet Chess community competition this June was like diving headfirst into a whirlwind of strategy, speed, and experience.”

From the early rounds to the mid-game, we found that there were more draws than wins and losses, which was interesting. To find more meaningful wins and losses, we increased the time so that necessary games could produce clear results.

Looking back on this experience, what strikes us most is the sheer joy of it. Bullet Chess, in particular, sits somewhere between bullet-paced (3 minutes) and hyper-bullet-paced (30 seconds). We opted for 60 seconds, stripping the game down to its most basic form—intuition, reflexes, and a bit of courage.

We might consider adding more visual announcements and, building on the community vibe described in the Bullet Chess tournament coverage, incorporating a chat element to emphasize the active, supportive atmosphere and increase audience participation throughout the process. However, this would make the event much larger. We certainly look forward to conducting other experiments and providing information to the community next time.
