The project was a huge success thanks to the support of this grant and the volunteers who came out to make it happen.

The purpose of the project was to get ppl out and on bikes, provide a way to network with fellow mountain bike enthusiasts and to show off the amazing area we have in our backyard.

The funding was used to purchase the food to entice the folks to come out to the bike trail network at Mount Abriel, a place where biking isn’t the only thing to do but it’s definitely the highlight of the area. We brought a bbq and everything we needed for an offsite event and had a Cpl amazing volunteers cheffing up burgers and hotdogs with all the fixings. Additionally, we used funds to provide activities for the really little rippers who are not quite as bike obsessed as the big kids. We had bubbles galore, a Dino hunt, coloring and prizes for the kids bike race. We had a lot of great feedback about the extra attention towards the littles. And, designating  one person to oversee the kids was a game changer. Even tho parents and other helpers where hands on it just made things run really smooth.

Running events offsite can be challenging but my advice is to keep it as simple as possible. Finger foods (save $ on disposables)..Paper towel so napkins don’t blow all over, garbage bags (pack it in pack it out!!) & a spray bottle with vinegar. And keep the kids entertained!

Spring Bikefest was amazing and we hope to do it again in the near future.
